9 February, 2008: Minutes of Monthly Online Meeting
Location: 9pm ET in a Yahoo! Messenger Chat Room
Attendance: Michelle Booth, Cindy Beam, Andrea Bertin, Kirsten Brazier, Erin Recke, Liz Clark
Items discussed:
* "The Bear" – Andrea has sent the official information to Kira, who has volunteered to look into the rules for this fundraising project and will let us know how we go about purchasing a bear or having it donated. We talked about appointing a bear “travel manager”, dispatching a photo album and disposable camera, and Erin suggested creating a passport to send with the bear”. The preference seems to be that each member who journeys with "the bear" will pay for his shipping to the next member as part of a donation to the project.
* The WAI conference breakfast - Liz will be heading up that event. It sounds like we can expect about 7 chapter members at this point. If it's not going to be an official meeting, it'll at least be a social one. Terrace Cafe at the Town & Country (buffet) on Saturday, March 15th at 0700. Cost runs about $14.00 per person for breakfast.
* The Edge – Members present all complemented Sabrina’s efforts on the newsletter, and contributions were discussed for the March issue. We also talked about the need for active contributions from Chapter members to keep the “Edge” going, and the importance of meeting the monthly deadline for submissions – the 20th of each month.
* Brainstorming session re Chapter Fundraising - The possibility of raffling off something to benefit the chapter or the 99s as a whole (with the money) and a member (who wins it) -- an airline ticket? A WAI conference registration? (which will be held in ATL next year) A new aviation headset? We talked about options for selling tickets -- the newsletter, emails to all our members, at conferences, in our own personal networks, etc. Kirsten will contact David Clark to see about donating a headset. We talked about donating the money raised for the 99s Endowment Fund and the Scholarship Fund.
* Michelle is working on a creative re-design for the website, but is also coping with training among other things, so it will take time for the finished product, however progress is being made. Kirsten has been updating and "spicing things up" in the interim and we're still in need of updated bios and pictures for the members.
* Upcoming Chapter vacancies – volunteers still needed for Membership Chair, and to run for Chapter Chair.
* Cindy Beam was just hired at Delta and will be based in SLC! YIPPEE!
Follow-up Actions:
* Andrea:
- will find out from Kira about the status, and how to proceed with "the bear".
* Erin:
- will send out Ambassador Chapter Breakfast Meeting at the WAI Conference to all members via email;
- will create and print out a "passport" in which "the bear" can log his travels through the chapter.
* Kirsten:
- will call David Clark and other sponsors about donating a headset for our raffle – but will first check with HQ about legalities;
- publish these meeting notes on our chapter website.
