9 March, 2008: Minutes of Monthly Online Meeting
Location: 9pm ET in a Yahoo! Messenger Chat Room
Attendance: Michelle Booth, Kirsten Brazier, Erin Recke, Robin Turner
Items discussed:
* Welcoming new member Robin Turner, a Private Pilot living in Irwin, Pennsylvania working on her Instrument Rating.
* Fund raising ideas/update: the raffle idea is under research at the moment, but raffles are legally complicated so this research will take some time. A lawyer 99 and legal advisors HQ are also on it. **New** idea on the table for brainstorming is a "Corporate Challenge" - sort of a mini-competition amongst the members to see who can canvas the largest private (non-99 member) or corporate donation to the Endowment fund (or other avenue of our choice). We would need ideas for prize/prize donor for the winner, if we decided to proceed and the final plan will have to be cleared though HQ before approaching corporate sponsors. Also, information for donors, such as tax receipt/write-offs would need to be clarified with HQ.
* Kirsten is looking for a book about various country's customs and laws about raising money for not-for-profits. If anyone has any information she can send her it would help in the research about how we can and can't make money for the chapter and the 99s as a whole. She's also looking for one in particular: International Fund Raising for Not-for-Profits: A Country-by-Country Profile (The AFP/Wiley Fund Development Series) (Hardcover)
by Thomas Harris (Author) ISBN-10: 047124452X //
ISBN-13: 978-0471244523
* We've received a few new biographies and photos of members that we're installing on the website. We're still looking for updated information from everyone! Your information is essential to informing prospective new members about the chapter. It also opens the door to networking with other members who have similar interests or may need help.
* Michelle is looking for folks to send her photographs of all things aviation so she can add them to the website. Have photos of sunsets at altitude? Neat runway approaches? Pretty views? You in an airplane? Send 'em to Michelle (af747@msn.com).
* Michelle is flying for UPS up in Syracuse - she announced that she successfully made it through recurrent training and is officially off probation! Yippeee!!!! Way to go Girl!
* Ideas were tossed around for a future member activity: recurring idea seems to be for a group "float endorsement", or other endorsement; also lots of interest in an Air Race or "Powder Puff" type derby
Follow-up Actions:
We've planned the next Leadership Meeting for Sunday, March 16th at 1800 ET. Kirsten will send out a reminder to the officers/leadership.
